Kids Against Hunger's meals are specially formulated to meet the nutritional requirements of starving and undernourished children all over the world. We have witnessed first-hand - and through reports from countless food recipients - that our food is having a significant impact on those who eat it.
The benefits of consuming Kids Against Hunger's meals are two-fold:Eating a well-balanced meal leads to the reversal of the starvation process and the physical improvement in the children who eat it - giving them the strength to attend school and participate in daily activities that they were too weak to be a part of before.
The essential nutrients in the food help to 'jump start' the brains of starving children - increasing the opportunity of receiving a solid education because they are better able to retain information - creating the chance for a better future. To show that the benefits and results of our food are real, we would like to share with you some of the testimonials we have received over the years: Testimonial 1 - Haiti:Letter from Donald Curtis with "Children's International Lifeline" (Oct.
16, 2009)
I am writing this letter to inform you how appreciative we are at Children's International Lifeline for the Life Giving food that you have supplied us with. We have seen amazing results since first starting to use this food in our feeding programs. On average we have seen a weight increase of at least 10% in the first two to four weeks of placing the children on the Kids Against Hunger food. This statistic is thrilling to us because many times it takes them from the severe malnourished stage of starvation to a point where their bodies can begin to heal from within. Soon after the children start eating the Kids Against Hunger food, their hair begins to start changing from the burnt red color to a deep black. This is significant indication that shows that their body is getting the necessary protein and nutrients that they so desperately need.
In essence we are both amazed and excited to see this food actually reverse the starvation process. In Haiti, which is the most impoverished country in the western hemisphere, it is necessary to have a miracle to save many of the children's lives. Most of the children are at a stage of such severe starvation from the extreme lack of nutrients that their bodies are limp without strength. Kids Against Hunger Food has been that much needed miracle that has helped us save many of these children's lives.
One account that quickly comes to mind is a young mother that brought her small child
to us. She was holding it close to her chest as the child laid so limp it seemed
as if he were dead or at least unconscious. The mother had tears flowing down
her face as she was begging us for a miracle. Her son was about to die from starvation.
When asked what she had been feeding this young child she answered by saying: "the only thing I had - flour and water." Can you imagine that the only thing this small boy had been eating was flour and water? When asked why this was the only thing that he was fed, the mother replied: "because
it's the only thing that I had. My husband is gone, my father and mother are
dead, and I have no one to help me."
This is a typical case in Haiti. The average life span is 55 to 57 years of age. Because of the lack of food and medical help most of the people don't have a very long life. Those who do survive are many times weak and unable to care for their children. Many of the older children have to care for their younger siblings and try to survive as best as they can. Even with this the older children are weak and sickly themselves. It's some ofthe worst conditions in the world. These children desperately need life-saving nourishment. Kids Against Hunger has been that life-saving food that the children need.
The young child that I mentioned was saved! He is doing wonderful now! His body has healed and is flourishing mainly because of the Kids Against Hunger. Thank you very much for this. Your food is not only improving the quality of life for thousands of children but you have given many of them a hope for a flourishing future. This food to us and to these children is everything! We pray that God blesses you because you are the Lifeline for the country of Haiti! Your food has given tens of thousands of children in Haiti a wonderful hope of something many of us take for granted - it is giving them a hope of a future. Thank you on behalf of all the children in Haiti, Donald L. Curtis President/CEO of Children's International Lifeline Testimonial 2 - Honduras:Sometimes we do get to see that we are making a difference - Letter from Allen Sowers (Feb. 12, 2008)
"Working
with the desperately poor can be a daunting job. There are always
(ALWAYS) more needs than resources. Sometimes we wonder if we
are even making a small dent in the situation. One of the programs we run involves helping families in which there is a child with special medical needs. Many families in the department of Lempira are barely surviving, and the extra stress and workload caused by the addition of a child with medical problems can easily be the factor which takes the family into disaster. In the families we work with, many of the children have problems involving mental and physical handicaps that will never be resolved. Although we help them get needed medical care, sometimes the main impact we have is in helping the family get enough to eat.
This morning, the mom from one of our Special Needs families came for a visit. Her daughter, Kenia, is severely handicapped, both mentally and physically. The reason for her visit today, was to show off her new baby, Maria Carmen - affectionately called Carmencita.
This family is no longer suffering from malnutrition, and this baby is looking...just so delightfully normal! We encounter many children who have suffered permanent damage from malnutrition. It's great to see a child who has been helped to avoid the damage!" Testimonial 3 - Photos from the U.S. Navy:In 2010 alone, over four million Kids Against Hunger meals were shipped to Haiti and several countries in the Pacific Rim by the U.S. Navy. Since 2006, the U.S. Navy has delivered Kids Against Hunger's meals to more than 20 different countries, including Panama, the Philippines, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.
